ABANSW promotes the unique design possibilities inherent in wrought metal. Our sculptural form of forged metal is a relative newcomer on the arts scene. The art of blacksmithing is ancient but the extensive use of our materials and techniques in a purely or even predominantly sculptural sense is quite modern. Our techniques are not yet widely taught in arts schools, arts scholars have limited understanding of our work and as a result the penetration of blacksmith-wrought works into the traditional art market is somewhat immature.

We, however, are champions of the work created in the blacksmith makers field. We seek the subtleties of shape and tone that differentiate our forged works from metal sculpture produced using solely modern techniques. As a group we delight in and celebrate the high quality works we see around us. This is what we capture in our exhibition series- the diversity and quality of contemporary work produced across our field.
